NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Winners of Genesis 2010: College Student Juried Exhibition were announced at a reception at Peninsula Fine Arts Center Friday, April 2, 2010.

Genesis 2010 was juried by Teresa Annas, arts writer for the Virginian Pilot. Annas states, “The award winners indicate the works I was most attracted to and instantly connected with. That doesn’t mean there aren’t dozens more works I might have chosen on a different day, with a different mind set. That, my friends, is the true nature of judging. And of looking at art, for that matter. Art connects to us, first and foremost, personally.”

Pfac Program Director & Curator Michael Preble adds, “Ranging from observations of the world around us to expressions of a more spirited nature, Genesis 2010 offers us insights into the creative process and a rare glimpse into the diverse objects, people and feelings that for one reason or another have motivated these young artists to focus on with their divergent creative talents.”

Over 140 artworks were submitted by students from Christopher Newport University

College of William and Mary, Hampton University, Old Dominion University, Richard Bland College, Thomas Nelson Community College, Tidewater Community College and Virginia Wesleyan College.
