POLICE INVESTIGATE EARLY MORNING HOMICIDE - Newport News
Update 8/5/10: Detectives have reliable information that the shooter in this case may have been the intended victim of a planned robbery. Detectives know that the victim was in possession of a handgun at the time of the shooting. However, claims of self defense must be stated to police by the intended victim. We strongly suggest that the person involved make immediate contact with the lead investigator, Detective Wayne Verdaasdonk, at 757-928-4219.
The gun in that was in the victim’s possession was reported as stolen from Hampton.
POLICE INVESTIGATE EARLY MORNING HOMICIDE
At about 3:48 A.M. Thursday, August 5, 2010 Police Communications received calls of gunshots being heard in the 4200 block of Orcutt Avenue. When officers arrived they located a twenty-year-old male lying next to a car in the apartment complex parking lot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until his family can be properly notified.
The investigation is ongoing and detectives are interviewing potential witnesses. At this time there is no description of, or information regarding, suspects.
