Ann of Hurricane Katrina/Largest mental health provider leads effort to return attention to America'

(New Orleans, Louisiana) – Louisiana is in a state of dire emergency. Five years since Hurricane Katrina ravished the Gulf Coast with its deadly winds and disease-ridden flood waters, the people of New Orleans are still suffering in ways unimaginable. In the aftermath of America’s most devastating natural disaster; senseless violence, rampant crime rates, drug abuse and mental illness have plagued the city like an open sore. Louisiana Reentry and Rehabilitation Services and Indigent Partial Hospitalization (IPH) have a five-year history of providing substance abuse treatment mental health services and prisoner reentry services throughout the State, in community based settings.  Louisiana Reentry and Rehabilitation Services will return attention to Louisiana and the increased need for mental health services for Hurricane Katrina survivors via a campaign dubbed Care for Community.

The Care for Community campaign will host three events during the annual 5th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana August 25th through September 4, 2010.  Launched with a state-wide human/billboard campaign, Louisiana Reentry and Rehabilitation services will raise awareness and promote peace of mind, safe neighborhoods and healthy lifestyles.  According to CEO, Reginald Stewman, “There are good people of Louisiana who have simply had a difficult time re-adjusting after the storm and levee breach and are self-medicating themselves with illegal drugs, hyper sexuality, alcoholism that ultimately lead to poor mental health.  We rehabilitate rather than incarcerate. Our goal is to heal families and ultimately eradicate many of the social ills that plague Louisiana.”

Plans are in action to host two fundraising efforts that will raise enough funds to offset the increasing costs to continue, create and provide stellar state-wide innovative health services.  Reentry Corporation of America with its Louisiana affiliate leading the effort, both are committed to reducing addictive disorders, behavioral health diseases, prisoner reentry and recidivism for Hurricane Katrina survivors in Louisiana.
