HAMPTON ROADS AREA LANE CLOSURE FORECAST; January 24 through January30, 2010

 

Hampton Roads, Va. - In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads.  These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events.  Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.

WILLIAMSBURG

Route 143 Merrimac Trail North/South – Merrimac Trail, Route 143, will be closed to through traffic between Capital Landing Road and Second Street for slope repair through the end of January, 2010.  Motorists should be alert for detour signs. 

 

COLEMAN BRIDGE

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect a single lane closure from the Yorktown to the

Gloucester shoreline for variable message board and CCTV repair and maintenance, Tuesday, January 26, from 9 a.m. to noon.  In the event of inclement weather, closure will occur on Wednesday, January 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.

 

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE

Route 17 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures from River Road to Kings Cove Way for repair and maintenance of bridge traffic signals, CCTV and VMS structures, Monday, January 25, and Friday, January 29, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

 

 

HAMPTON

I-64 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at

LaSalle Avenue (Exit 265) for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, January 27, and Thursday, January 28, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

HAMPTON/CHESAPEAKE

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Mallory Street (Exit 268) to Military Highway (Exit 297) for pothole repair, Sunday, January 24, through Friday, January 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

NEWPORT NEWS/YORKTOWN

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Route 646 (Exit 234) to J. Clyde Morris Boulevard (Route 258) for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, January 27, and Thursday, January 28, from9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

NEWPORT NEWS

Jefferson Avenue Widening Project

Route 143 North/South – Through March 2010, motorists should expect alternating lane closures and traffic shifts on Jefferson Avenue from Buchanan Drive to King’s Ridge for construction activity, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect a new traffic pattern for the duration of the project.  The work zone is now between both directions of travel lanes, eliminating left turn lanes, except those allowable at intersections.

 

Warwick Boulevard East/West

Route 60 – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures for construction activities on Warwick Boulevard from Nettles Drive to J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Sunday through Saturday. Anticipate overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6a.m. on both east and west bound lanes. Daytime lane closures should be expected daily from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on east and west bound lanes. These lane closures will be in affect through project completion in March 2010.

-- Motorists should expect daytime and night time lane closures on Warwick Boulevard, both east and west bound for the duration of the project in order to complete paving operations, signalization and lighting installation, landscaping, & other work necessary to compete the project.  Business entrances could be impacted for short periods while paving machines move past the entrances.

 

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the approach bridge to the north island for tunnel maintenance and drain cleaning Sunday, January 24, through Friday, January 29, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

I-664 North/South - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for fire extinguisher inspections, Tuesday, January 26, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

 

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane shoulder closures at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel for fire extinguisher inspections, Thursday, January 28, from 9 p.m. to midnight.

 

I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday, January 24 through Friday, January 29, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays.  Take Exit 264 to access I-664.  Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations.  Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures through the Downtown Tunnel, over the Berkley Bridge and at I-464 on and off ramps, for sweeping operations Monday, January 25, and Friday, January 29, from midnight to 5 a.m.

 

MIDTOWN TUNNEL

Route 58 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Midtown Tunnel for system repair and maintenance, Tuesday, January 26, from 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.

 

NORFOLK

Hampton Boulevard
Grading Project

Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures, both north and south bound on Hampton Boulevard between “B” Avenue and Rogers Avenue for utility operations, Monday, January 25, through Friday, January 29, from 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

Motorists should be alert for a Greenbrier Avenue detour Monday, January 25, through Friday, January 29, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

I-564 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure in the Runway Tunnel for generator and pumping system maintenance and inspection, Thursday, January 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at

Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) for overhead sign replacement Wednesday, January 27 and Thursday, January 28, from 9 p.m. to 5a.m.

 

Route 164 West Norfolk Bridge – Motorists should expect a single lane shoulder closures for bridge repair Sunday, January 24, through Saturday, January 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a single mobile alternating lane closure from First Colonial Road (Exit 21) through the I-464 Interchange (Exit 8) for sweeping and drain cleaning operations, Sunday, January 24 through Friday, January 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect a mobile lane closure form First Colonial Road (Exit 21) through Bowers Hill (Exit 1) for pothole repair, Sunday, January 24, through Saturday, January 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

                                                             

CHESAPEAKE

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday, January 25, through Friday, January 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt.  These paving operations will continue through August 2011.

 

GILMERTON BRIDGE

Route 13 South Military HighwayThe Gilmerton Bridge will be reduced to one lane in both directions, from the Bainbridge interchange to Shell Road beginning Sunday, January 24.  Motorists should be alert to this new traffic pattern, which will remain in place through June, 2011.

 

Jolliff Road/Airline Boulevard/Military Highway Intersection – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures to Flintfield Crescent for concrete placement, Monday, January 25, through Saturday, January 30, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Motorists should also be alert for shoulder closures in the area.

 

CHESAPEAKE/HAMPTON

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures from High Rise Bridge to Mallory Street (Exit 268) for shoulder sweeping and drain cleaning operations, Sunday, January 24, through Saturday, January 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

VIRGINIA BEACH

Lynnhaven Parkway North/South

– Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Lynnhaven Parkway between Holland Road and Lishelle Place for paving operations, Monday, January 25, through Friday, January 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures prior to the Virginia Beach Boulevard Overpass at the I-264 on-ramp for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, January 28, and Friday, January 29, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.  Motorists should be alert to ramp reductions.

 

CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND/ACCOMAC

Route 175 East/West –Motorists should expect the causeway at the West end of the Black Narrows Bridge to be open to alternating one-way traffic controlled by a traffic light through the end of the year. Motorists should also expect periodic lane closures throughout the duration of the project, Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
