VIRGINIA BEACH POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING SUSPECT(S) IN BURGLARIES

From early January until the end of February 2010, at least nine residential burglaries were reported in the Lakes section of Virginia Beach.

Officers are making contact with residents to make them aware of the crimes happening in their neighborhood and are hoping that residents may have information that will lead to the arrest of those responsible for these crimes.  A flyer has been distributed to the residents of this area that highlights some of the burglaries that have occurred:

Anyone with information on these cases is encouraged to call the Virginia Beach Crime Solvers Office at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).  Callers remain anonymous and could be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward if their information leads to an arrest.

In many of these cases, the residences did not have doors or windows locked.  The Virginia Beach Police Department offers the following crime prevention suggestions:

1.      Keep all doors and windows locked

2.      Do not leave keys in your vehicle.  This includes garage door openers.

3.      Turn on exterior lights at night to allow neighbors and police to watch your home.

4.      Trim bushes and trees to reduce hiding places.

5.      Be aware of suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
